I grew up in the San Joaquin Valley which is known throughout the world for it's rich fertile soil that lends itself to growing such great produce in this wonderful Mediterranean climate.
A few years ago, California Cuisine came into being along with new exciting seed companies that offered all kinds of vegetable seeds from overseas that you could grow into gourmet vegetables. My mother, father, and I poured over these catalogs at our annual January "cheese soufflé luncheon" marking down way too many seeds to grow.
I finally settled on my own "Collection" and maintained a reputation for growing baby vegetables and other unusual gourmet treats. After many years of particpating in specialty vegetable shows and after selling to many bay area restaurants, I settled in and have become a regular, in particular, at the Certified Farmers Market in Davis California. When Farmer's Markets became very popular - I was very much and still am a part of that scene.
You cannot become stagnant - There is forever a challenge out there. To this day I drive tractor, Plant, and harvest a smaller portion of my "vegetable collection".
As I continue to evolve.. My flavored Canola Oils have come into play. For the past eight years I have offered, at my Farmer's Market stand, Tasty Flavored Basil Canola Oil and just as tasty - the Roasted Garlic Canola Oil. I have a very positive reaction from my customers when they taste my dipping mixture of the Basil Oil into which I add Balsamic Vinegar and Parmesan cheese.
